LIKE ACROSTICS, MESOTICS ARE WRITTEN IN THE CONVENTIONAL WAY HORIZONTALLY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY FOLLOW A VERTICAL RULE, DOWN THE MIDDLE NOT DOWN THE EDGE AS AN ACROSTIC, A STRING SPELLS A WORD OR NAME, NOT NECESSARILY CONNECTED WITH WHAT IS BEING WRITTEN, THOUGH IT MAY BE. THIS VERTICAL RULE IS LETTRISTIC AND IN MY PRACTICE THE LETTERS ARE CAPITALIZED. BETWEEN TWO CAPITALS IN A PERFECT 100% MESOTIC NEITHER LETTER MAY APPEAR IN LOWER CASE. Touch of the Cathode Rays
TV with a gut feeling
April 2003
Visitors would walk up to an overturned television, put on a pair of headphones, and press their stomach against a plastic hemisphere mounted on the bottom of the television. A synchronous composition of audio, visuals, and vibrations was initiated by pressing a small button on the side of the television.A vibrotactile distillation of the visual scenery could be felt whenever the moving image interacted with the bottom edge of the screen. The use of spatially coincident visuals and vibrations induced an eery sense of causality, creating a powerful sensory experience. This piece was created for the Collision V show at the Compton Gallery in 2003.
