LIKE ACROSTICS, MESOTICS ARE WRITTEN IN THE CONVENTIONAL WAY HORIZONTALLY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY FOLLOW A VERTICAL RULE, DOWN THE MIDDLE NOT DOWN THE EDGE AS AN ACROSTIC, A STRING SPELLS A WORD OR NAME, NOT NECESSARILY CONNECTED WITH WHAT IS BEING WRITTEN, THOUGH IT MAY BE. THIS VERTICAL RULE IS LETTRISTIC AND IN MY PRACTICE THE LETTERS ARE CAPITALIZED. BETWEEN TWO CAPITALS IN A PERFECT 100% MESOTIC NEITHER LETTER MAY APPEAR IN LOWER CASE. It Fell In My Lap

A videotactile play on laps

December 2007

It Fell in My Lap is a video tactile play on, for, and about the lap, an intimate place of warmth and retreat, a place where good things fall and problems are dumped, a place whose existence hinges on the act of sitting.

The display device is placed on the lap of the observer, such that the video, of a lap and materials falling into it, are witnessed from a first person perspective. The resulting sensations are felt below against the legs.

The spatial coincidence of the device in video and physical space puts the observer in a strange place, an intimate space that is unexpectedly intruded upon by buckets of material from an unseen source. He is invited to string together a narrative from the series of materials.
